Shubman Gill Reaches Milestone in IPL Match
On May 19, during the 60th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Gujarat Titans' captain Shubman Gill marked a significant milestone by scoring his 5000th run in T20 cricket.
Gill delivered an impressive performance, remaining not out with 93 runs off 53 balls, achieving a remarkable strike rate of 175.47, which included three fours and seven sixes.
This innings not only helped him reach the 5000-run mark but also positioned him as the sixth player in cricket history to do so, following legends like Chris Gayle (132), KL Rahul (143), Shaun Marsh (144), Devon Conway (144), and Babar Azam (145).
His partnership with opener Sai Sudarshan, which totaled 205 runs, led the Gujarat Titans to a commanding 10-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals.
With this win, the Gujarat Titans ascended to the top of the IPL 2025 standings, securing a playoff spot with 18 points from 12 matches. Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals, led by Axar Patel, remained in fifth place with 13 points from the same number of games.
In the post-match press conference, the 25-year-old Gill expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, “It feels great to secure our playoff spot. We still have two crucial games ahead, and maintaining our momentum is essential. I aim to focus on my batting rather than my captaincy. Last year was a learning experience for me as a first-time captain, and I gained valuable insights towards the end of the season.”
